The curriculum for schools in Ireland is determined by the Minister for Education and Science who is advised by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. The curriculum sets out what is to be taught and how it is to be taught and assessed.
Little Angels School uses a student centered approach and an Individual Education Plan is drawn up in collaboration with parents and the multi-disciplinary team. These plans are reviewed regularly throughout the year.
A variety of individual and group programmes are used including PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), TEACCH, and Lámh (Irish Signing System for Special Needs).
Close collaboration exists with the relevant Health Service Executive Professionals including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Special Needs Counsellors and the Autism Team.
A wide and varied curriculum is offered including:
- Communication and Language
- Social, Personal & Health Education
- Physical Education
- Social, Environmental and Scientific Education
- Visual Arts
- FETAC Programmes
- Junior Cycle
Our children can have complex learning difficulties and at times, sensory impairment, medical difficulties and physical disabilities and can require a high level of support for their learning needs. That type of support is provided here at The Little Angels. Parents are kept informed through the daily use of home/school diaries.
Pupils at Little Angels are given opportunities to explore the wider community through frequent environmental visits. Participation in regular shopping trips, visits to theatres, cinema and restaurants and involvement in events organised locally provide opportunities for our pupils to make connections with the wider community.
Activities which the students enjoy include:
- Weekly Social Outings
- School Tours
- Art Work
- Multi Sensory Activities
- Gym at the Aura Leisure Centre
